Hailey was born in South Korea, specifically in the city called ‘Seoul”, where most people think of when they recall South Korea. She first had an experience of American culture when she went to school in the States in the 8th grade, leaving her family in Korea. She spent 3 years in the States under a homestay family. Although she was apart from Korean culture by physically being in the States, her Korean homestay family kept reminding her of and surrounding her with Korean culture. This is why although she was in the States, she was able to taste both Korean and American culture, which struggled her a bit to find an intermediate point between those two cultures. After spending a good 2 years back in Korea after those 3 years, she came back to the States and still is struggling to find her true identity in between two cultures. She hopes this TCK project gives a sense of relief to the people who are going through the same thing as she is, telling them you’re not alone!
